Sugarbabe by Holly Hill

Gainesville EntertainmentYou might read the basic premise of Sugarbabe—“The Controversial Real Story of a Woman in Search of a Sugar Daddy”—and think, “Ah, yes. I know how this story goes: Journalist launches sexy experiment/writes about the good parts/has a breakdown/shares with us a moral lesson and comes out on top.”

Story by Maghan McDowell

Well, you’d be only partly right. In this true story by Holly Hill (pseudonym), out this month from Skyhorse Publishing, we meet a cash-strapped journalist-turned-psychologist who does what only most of us can fantasize about: puts out an ad for a rich man to pay ($1,000 a week!) for food, company and (yes, it’s true) sex, and gets loads of qualified responses in return.

But what we didn’t expect was that Holly sets about to redefine the terms of modern marriage, arguing (with first-person proof) that we are not meant to be in lifelong, monogamous marriages, and that it’s the rule—rather than the exception—that most men either cheat, or wish they could. Here’s how it would work, according to Holly:

-The man asks permission from the wife/girlfriend to be with someone else (but only once, to prevent attachment).
-She agrees.
-She gets a new dress, and her husband returns happy and satisfied.
-Ultimately, their house would have two bedrooms—one for the marriage bed, and the other for negotiated liaisons. Really!

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get back to what you really want to know: That is, did she succeed? Of course! What sugar daddy memoir would be complete without distinguished older gentlemen wining and dining; powerful businessmen with questionable job descriptions; and rich, childlike momma’s boys with mercurial mood swings?

Holly, it would seem, was a more successful “sugarbabe” than we could ever hope to be. She is an excellent cook, keeps her beauty and her figure well into her 30s (and explains why being 40-ish is the best sugarbabe age), loves sex (even when she’s on her own) and has a “risk-ometer” that tends to be in hibernation (it’s been diagnosed).

The result is an exciting, thought-provoking and shocking (the frankness of the sex scenes will make you blush) memoir that makes us want to know more. Good thing, because we heard that she released a second book—a follow-up of sorts, in which she turns the tables and finds a “Toyboy.” Sweet!

If you’re out on your luck (or just need some help with the rent), read Sugarbabe to see if you’re up for the challenge of entertaining your own Sugar Daddy—you just might be surprised.

P.S. While Holly is no longer in a cash-for-play relationship (the guilt of dishonesty to the wife finally caught up with her), she has reported to be in a “negotiated fidelity” relationship. Book No. 3, perhaps??
