ELLE’s new fashion bible, ELLEments of Personal Style, is a must-have for anyone who considers himself or herself “in the know.” Celebrating 25 years as a fashion forerunner, ELLE magazine published this book with the hope that the readers realize that “style is a lifestyle.”

The book is divided into 25 sections, each highlighting a modern fashion icon. Complete with personal photos of the women’s most representative outfits, apartments and their own icons, each ten-page section is replete with commentary and a lengthy article accompanied with the women’s favorite stores to shop at.

So who are the lucky 25 whose styles exude high fashion? Just to name a few are Lea Michele, Padma Lakshmi, Fergie, Margherita Missoni, Dita von Teese and Milla Jovovich.

Robbie Myers, editor-in-chief of ELLE, who also wrote the forward of this book, says, “Since its inception, ELLE has challenged the notion of what ‘American beauty’ can be.” The purpose of the book is to inspire ELLE girls to transform how they feel. Clothes and accessories can brighten a mood, exude confidence, and give her to the modern edge to take over the world.

The book is set up in a sort of behind-the-scenes, one-of-a-kind montage of each woman’s closet, home, workplace and favorite spaces. Padma Lakshmi’s section, for example, includes personal pictures of her wedding in “full regalia,” including accenting pieces of jewelry. Her section, naturally, draws on her strong Indian heritage, and it is because of this that she attributes much of her personal style to. “My attitude toward jewelry is incredibly Indian. We commemorate everything with jewelry and food.” Often described as an urban sensualist, this model, cookbook author, jewelry designer and host of Bravo’s Top Chef, idolizes Dorothy Parker because of her sharp wit and literary panache. Whatever she actually dressed like, her style of being and living show enduring iconic status through the decades.

And so the book is laid out in this manner for 24 more women, each with a different, yet sophisticated elegance about them. We say this $30 beauty tome, which hit newsstands this week, shouldn’t be missed by anyone who cares about what they put on the mornings.
