Twilight's Ashley Greene
Thursday, 10 June 2010 01:33

Gainesville EventsIt seems like the Twilight Saga, like its temperamental vampires, may never go away. The June 30 release of Eclipse may provide more bite this time around thanks to new, edgy filmmaker David Slade (Hard Candy).

Gainesville EventsWhere the film resumes, a series of mysterious murders continues, but Kristen Stewart's character Bella is too preoccupied with the romantic woes of vampire love (Robert Pattinson as Edward) and furry werewolf (Taylor Lautner as Jacob) attraction. She’s also juggling high school graduation and the option of immortality.

Fortunately, Alice Cullen, played by INsite cover starlet Ashley Greene, is once again poised to spice up the perpetual glum and weepy girl attitude.

The Jacksonville homegirl, who’s not shy about expressing herself, has been caught lately strutting her stuff in nothing but a body-painted bikini in SoBe ads for the Sports Illustrated 2010 Swimsuit Edition. We chatted with the pretend-perky vampire, who also made the list as one of The World’s Most Beautiful Women of 2010 in People Magazine. Read on as Ashley discusses sexing up her role-playing, and the challenge of being alternately sweet and sassy while undead, and compares the erotic appeal of her Twilight costars.

Ashley, how was it reuniting this time around with the Twilight cast?
Great! Because since we know each other so well, it is kind of a no-brainer. And we already have this kind of chemistry, so it wasn't hard at all.

Let’s talk Edward and Jacob. What do you think is the secret of the Twilight leading-guy sex symbol?
Their chemistry is really incredible, together and individually as well. And personally for me, it shows how genuine they both are. They are both very authentic people, and that comes across on the screen. So, they are just like that.

And what about getting into steamy stuff on camera?
I was kind of wondering about that. But we are such close friends, even if we definitely had a platonic relationship. So going and playing romantic, I was wondering if it was going to be harder or easier. But because we are already so comfortable with each other, it was actually less awkward than with someone I didn't know.

What about offscreen?
I love everything about the adventure of it. I’m like a kid in a candy shop right now! I want to do everything I haven’t done yet.

Gainesville EventsWhat were some of the harder challenges?
It's kind of nice, because we are playing the same characters. And we're just moving on with them, and digging through different layers. So I feel like the hard part of it is kind of over, and then we were just having fun with it. But I'm excited about a lot of it. And I don't want to give anything away! The thing I will say is, Alice is an incredible character to break out with because she’s perky and happy and sweet, and she’s this best friend character that everybody loves. So it’s an amazing first character to have. Throughout the series you’ve gotten to see her go from really sweet to kind of sassy, and now in the third one we get to showcase this massive fight sequence that I’m a part of. So I got to get my action-star fix. And you see Alice get kind of down and dirty, and see a really intense side of her that maybe you haven’t seen before.

Have there been any lingering anger management issues with Taylor, after all that intensity going down, and how hard is it to get nasty with him on screen?
Those scenes are really fun to film! You know, they always say that the nicest people can play the meanest characters. I think it’s the same thing with Taylor. He’s so sweet.

But I can look at him and be mean to him onscreen or have a fight with him, and know that he’s not going to take it personally. So we definitely got to play off each other a little bit.

Has Twilight changed your life?
Yeah, definitely. The attention started when we were filming the first movie and I was like, “Oh, wow!” And when the websites started to pop up, I said to my mom, this is so bizarre. And I realized that girls were really relating to the character, which is so cool, because I've really worked my butt off to portray her. And I definitely can't take all the credit for it, but I'm very happy about it. And obviously, I can't speak on anybody else's behalf, because I don't know. But, yeah, I think that we are all definitely looking at each other and being like, “What is going on? What do you do, and how does it feel for you?”

So it's very nice to have someone right there, going through the same thing as you. And to be able to relate to it. And I think it's had a tremendous effect on how close we've all become. But it's something that I totally did not expect, and I just think it's incredible. Alice is an amazing character to play. She can see the future, and is this positive character who just happens to be a vampire. And when I realized that people were so open and willing to accept the character, I definitely exhaled.

How wild is it to be an action figure too?
You know you've made it when you have an action figure! It's so weird, yet it's so cool. It's not me, but since it's my character, it still looks like me. But I didn't even know I had one until my brother called and said, “Dude, I just bought your action figure!” Everyone always asks if we get used to all of this craziness. And when stuff like that happens, there is just no way that you can.

How do you envision life after Twilight, and what is your fantasy future?
I have a very different story than most people, about how things have happened for me. It happened very quickly, and so I'm getting all of this recognition, and I really haven't done a lot. And there are so many things I haven’t done yet. I love film, and I think I've covered drama. I definitely want to do a comedy, and I think a musical would be really fun. And I'm itching to do an action film. So I'm trying to choose the right projects that let me do things and create a career, rather than sticking to one thing. But you do a movie, and even if it's not a comedy or it's not an action film, you get a little taste of it. And then I want to do it all. I want to do it full force.

Did you know Ashley is from Jacksonville? We bet you didn't know she loves the Gators, too!
