Bill Pokorny, the UAC’s general manager, and he told us what to do if you’re interested in a job. The Air Center is looking for smart people older than 18 years with outgoing personalities and the ability to multitask.
While you don’t need to be fluent in two languages (like for Pan Am), a background in customer service helps. To apply, visit and ask for an application.
This is how to get your pilot’s certificate (real aviators know it’s not called a license):
First, figure out if you want to fly charter planes for hire or fly for a major airline or your own private plane for personal transportation and recreation. Each requires different types of ratings.
You can start out by getting a sport’s pilot certificate or your private pilot certificate, and work your way up from there. University Air Center’s flight school is a great place to begin your flying lessons. They even have a flight simulator. Go to www.uac.aero.
More information on learning to fly is available through the Airplane Owners and Pilots Association or the Experimental Aircraft Association. Instructional materials, many of them free, are available from www.gleim.com/aviation or www.faa.gov/pilots/training.
