December 4; Action, rated PG-13; Matt Dillon, Jean Reno, Laurence Fishburne

A group of armored security officers are fed up with their lives. In an effort to change their fortunes, they concoct the ultimate plan—to rob the company they work for—which is completely foolproof. The heist goes off without a hitch, until a complete stranger witnesses the crime. Now, what should have been a job without victims is quickly turning into a deadly game that can have no winners. Who will make it out with the money, and who will make it out alive? With a few heavy hitters behind the lens, this action-packed thrill ride should be worth the viewing.

Invictus INVICTUS
December 11; Drama, rated PG; Morgan Freeman, Matt Damon

True stories tend to make pretty moving films. When you have true-life movie stars Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon, you have the makings of one of the best films of 2009. Freeman plays Nelson Mandela in his quest to unite Africa, which has been torn apart by economics and racism. He enlists the South African national rugby team to help stir the people and instill pride among its citizens. This seemingly underdog team takes an entire nation on its shoulders, and with love for its fellow man, they make a run for the 1995 World Cup Championship.

Avatar AVATAR
December 18; Sci-Fi; Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver

Jake Sully is a former Marine who gave everything he had for his country and lost his ability to walk. Though unable to serve, Jake is a warrior at heart and continuously looks for a way to get back into the heat of battle. Jake never expected to be whisked away to an alien world where battle is a constant. The citizens of this new world have called upon Jake to be their ultimate warrior, and to this end, they transfer his soul into the body of their construct, called the Avatar. With his newfound powers, Jake will once again find himself on the battlefield, fighting for something he truly believes in. Avatar should have some of the most beautiful special effects ever seen in modern film, so keep an eye out for this title.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS
December 25; Fantasy, rated PG-13; Heath Ledger, Christopher Plummer, Tom Waits

In his final film, Ledger plays the amazing Doctor Parnassus, a man who has the extraordinary gift of toying with people's imaginations, a gift he uses to persuade people to do as he wishes. After a series of deals with the devil, Parnassus finally gets everything he ever wanted: the love of his life and a beautiful daughter. The only problem is, Parnassus promised his first born to the Lord of the Underworld in exchange for this happiness. Now, Parnassus must find a way to keep the lives of his family safe, before the devil comes to collect what was promised to him so long ago. The story is off-the-wall, and the visuals are even more so, making this one a must-see.
