By Brad McKay

Gainesville MoviesThe Expendables
August 13; Action; Rated R; Starring Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li

This movie has a cast we would have never dreamed would come together. A group of dangerous mercenaries, led by the fearless Barney Ross, are hired to overthrow the dictator of a country in South America. The mission soon turns into a fight for survival, as the group realizes they’re fighting for the wrong people, having been deceived by their employers. With nowhere to turn, Ross and his cadre must make things right and defeat the oppressors who hired them. The cast is simply amazing, having essentially every heavy hitter known to man. Get ready for a great action flick.

Gainesville MoviesLottery Ticket
August 20; Comedy; Rated PG-13; Starring Bow Wow, Ice Cube, Brandon T. Jackson

Kevin Carson isn’t exactly living in the fast lane. He’s got a dead-end job and lives in the projects. Through a twist of fate, Kevin wins a nationwide lottery worth $370 million, and is suddenly thrown into the life he always dreamed of…that is, if he can survive the next couple of days. As soon as his friends and neighbors find out about his newly acquired money, they all begin concocting plans to steal his riches. With only a three-day holiday weekend separating him from everything he’s ever wanted, Kevin must outwit everyone around him and claim his prize.

Gainesville MoviesThe Last Exorcism
August 27; Horror; Rated PG-13; Starring Patrick Fabian, Ashley Bell

Reverend Cotton Marcus is a man who has used his faith for his own gains for years, using his religion to convince others to pay for his lifestyle. One such man is Louis Sweetzer, a simple farmer who believes Cotton is his daughter’s only chance for survival. Louis contacts Cotton, explaining to him that his daughter has become possessed by a terrifying demon. Cotton thinks this could be his final act, and departs to the Sweetzer farm to perform the exorcism, filming it to sell to the world, but soon after his arrival, he discovers the atrocities the farm has seen, and becomes locked in a desperate battle for the soul of the young girl, and his own.

Gainesville MoviesMachete
September 3; Action; Rated Not available at press time; Starring Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba, Robert De Niro

This is just the kind of over-the-top action movie everyone can appreciate. Based on the fake trailer featured in Robert Rodriguez’s 2007 film, Grindhouse, Machete is a man who has nothing left to live for, save the satisfaction of killing. Working as a blade for hire, Machete takes a job to assassinate a corrupt senator, but is soon betrayed by everyone around him. A man already on the edge, this act pushes Machete to take down everyone and anyone who crosses his path. The action in this film is definitely far from believable, but it looks to be extremely entertaining, even a tad bit funny.
