Angels and Airwaves, a Blink 182 spinoff, played at The Ritz Ybor in Tampa on May 13. I liked Blink 182, and its spinoffs are good, too. I’ve seen Angels and Airwaves twice before and enjoyed them. Some of the band’s songs have been garnering airplay, and I recognized them at the show.
Story by: John Davisson

Tom DeLonge is trying to leave the pop-punk of Blink 182 behind him by embracing electronic sounds and recording a concept album. The band put on a nice show, but Tom’s voice is so recognizable that it almost seemed like a Blink 182 show with some bleeps and bloops thrown in (and not quite so much punk).
However, the lights behind the band were blinding. So much so that they were a distraction to the show. For the most part, moving silhouettes was all I could see (when I wasn’t averting my eyes). Spending so much on nice lighting effects that cripple the performance seems futile to me.
Although The Ritz was packed, the band does not seem to be going anywhere. Maybe it is time for a Blink 182 reunion tour. Already.
