Story and Photos by John Davisson
As usual, the band played several of Ringo’s songs, with All-Starr songs thrown in for variety. Ringo sang a mix of Beatles’ tunes (“With a Little Help From My Friends,” “Yellow Submarine,” “I Wanna Be Your Man,” “Boys,” “Honey Don’t,” and “Act Naturally”), past solo hits (“It Don‘t Come Easy,” “Back Off Bogaloo,” “Photograph,” and “Choose Love”) and “The Other Side of Liverpool,” and “Peace Dream” from the latest album Y Not. When he wasn’t singing, Ringo was usually on the drum kit. Fans were also treated to Rick’s “Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo” and “Hang On Sloopy,” Gary’s “Dream Weaver” and “Love is Alive,” Edgar’s “Frankenstein” and “Free Ride,” Wally’s “Talking in your Sleep” and “What I like About You,“ and Mr Mister’s “Kyrie” and “Broken Wings.” The show ended with cover of John Lennon’s “Give Peace a Chance.” The two-hour set had 23 songs that were familiar to most fans. Ringo was energetic and his trademark humor was in full effect as he joked about the humidity at the venue among other things. He looked great for having just turned 70, and he still seems to enjoy playing in a band more than being a solo artist. And we enjoy it, too.
