There was some political speech by Sean (of course, while in Florida, he couldn’t resist making fun of all the Obama vacations), and they were there to promote the Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund, which provides college scholarships to children of war veterans who have been wounded or killed in the line of duty, but mostly the evening was about the concert.

The Charlie Daniels Band, known for patriotism and southern pride, played a rousing set first. Sean came out to sing “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” (handling most of the verses admirably and referring to the devil as a liberal). He also threw a few footballs into the crowd. Michael W. Smith played next, and it was mellower, but there was still an energy—a positive vibe that transcended the performance as he connected with the audience. It was just Michael and a piano, but the set was definitely full and an uplifting experience.

Lynyrd Skynyrd closed the show and it was a full-on Skynyrd show, complete with plenty of his hits, and some newer material from God & Guns. Sean came out again to help a bit, during “Sweet Home Alabama” (though he mostly just tossed more footballs into the crowd). The evening ended with that song we all wanted to hear—“Free Bird”—and then Sean came out again to thank us for being a part of the concert.
