The Blackwater Music Festival, formerly known as the Blackwater Sol Revue in St. Augustine, moved to the Spirit of Suwannee Music Park this year for three days of fun and music in Live Oak.
Story and Photos by John Davisson
The first day began with The Malah, followed by Greenhouse Lounge. There were plenty of hippies dancing and twirling in the field to their grooves. P Groove was next with some fat Georgia jam-band grooves that had fans tossing glowsticks in the air to show their appreciation while beach balls bounced over the crowd. Headliner STS9 wrapped up the first night and had the sickest lightshow. A little light rain did nothing to dampen the spirits of the dancing hippies who treated the drizzle like a giant mist tent to keep them cool while grooving.
The second day featured solo sets by JJ Grey and G Love early in the day. Thomas Wynn & the Believers and Son of a Bad Man played on the Porch Stage to bring some regional music to the fans. Michael Franti & Spearhead closed out the Main Stage and Michael even performed a couple of songs on a small platform in the middle of the crowd. Disco Biscuits ended the day on the Amphitheatre Stage with their lights illuminating the surroundin
g forest.
The last day began with regional acts Zach Deputy, Snarky Puppy, Fusebox Funk, The Lee Boys and the Matt Grondin Band playing the Amphitheatre Stage and the Porch Stage. JJ Grey & Mofro played the Main Stage, debuting a new line-up and inviting a friend onto the stage to propose to his girlfriend. Slightly Stoopid closed the Main Stage with a high energy set that had the kids moshing. Galactic ended the festival with a midnight set on the Amphitheatre Stage for the late-night revelers.
Formerly a one-day concert, the Blackwater Music Festival got off to a great start this year as a multi-day festival in the beautiful Spirit of Suwannee Music Park. Look for its return next year.
