Rebelution played the Ritz Ybor in Tampa Wednesday on their Peace of Mind Tour, a celebration of the band’s latest album Peace of Mind, which the band released this month on its label 87 Music.
It is a unique three-disc set that includes the regular version as well as acoustic and dub versions of all 12 songs.
Rebelution’s melodic take on California reggae has helped the band become one of the top reggae bands and sell out the venues—which is what happened Wednesday as Rebelution performed to a sold-out crowd.
Rapper Pep Love and singer The Grouch opened for the band. Both openers joined Rebelution for a song in Rebelution’s set (which seems to be a tradition with California reggae acts like Slightly Stoopid and Rebelution).
Rebelution played a generous set of almost two hours of music, featuring half of the latest CD and old favorites.
Rebelution’s songs feature a variety of textures and grooves. Eric Rachmany gets a nice variety of sounds out of his guitars. It’s even possible he has more pedal effects for his guitar than he has songs in his repertoire (we’re not sure how he keeps the settings straight in his head). He also played acoustic guitar on a song—something that doesn’t happen often at reggae shows.
The night was a great example of how the band wins fans with excellent shows. Fans enthusiastically received the band, often waving hands and cellphones in the air.

During the show, Eric told the crowd how much the band appreciates the fans’ support for independent music. With the opportunities available to artists on the Internet, independent music groups like Rebelution can continue to grow.
