By Zachary A. Bennett BETTER THAN BREAKFAST The 24/7 convenience of IHOP is something few restaurants in Gainesville can match. “People can come in around 8pm or 9pm, and in the morning, it gets busy from 9am to 2pm,” says manager Tony Pignone. Breakfast is, naturally, the most popular meal. The most-ordered dish is the Three Eggs & Pancakes ($6.80), and diners can expect the same great-tasting dishes whether they are in Gainesville or Nebraska. But the menu extends to meatier selections as well, including USDA T-bone steaks ($12.60 and up), Top Sirloin Steak & Eggs ($11) and St. Louis-style pork ribs ($11). Tony suggested I try the Crispy Chicken Salad ($8), and I got an overflowing plate of green lettuce, tomatoes and cheddar cheese tossed in honey mustard and topped with crispy chicken. It’s enough to feed at least two people, and it satisfies cravings for fresh veggies and delicious fried foods. ALL ABOUT THE ‘CAKES By no surprise, IHOP has an enormous selection of pancakes. IHOP can turn your everyday pancake into breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. Ranging from the Chocolate Chip Pancakes ($6.80) to Original Buttermilk Pancakes ($6.80), IHOP has every taste bud on the palate covered.
HEALTHY OPTIONS Conscious of what you eat? IHOP has eight items at low prices specially made for those looking for a healthier alternative. The tasty Spinach, Mushroom & Tomato Omelet ($7.60) includes two pancakes and only has 330 calories and 7 grams of fat. The Buttermilk Trio ($5.80) only contains 380 calories and 12 grams of fat, so you don’t have to worry about counting calories when satisfying your late-night munchies. FAST FACTS Phone: 352-336-1839

Don’t just think “pancakes” when you think of the International House of Pancakes; IHOP’s menu includes more than 120 items. Generally, IHOP is a family restaurant, but in a college town like Gainesville, where IHOP has been around for more than 35 years, it also happens to be a post-club feast for the night owls and a study zone for patrons who appreciate bottomless cups of coffee.
