Their fast and friendly service make the dining experience even better, whether you choose to pick up your food from the drive-through or enjoy it at one of the picnic tables outside. “If you’re looking for a relaxed atmosphere, great food, fast service and good prices, that’s El Indio,” Manager Hernan Ospina says.MEXICAN FOOD AROUND THE CLOCK For those who crave Mexican cuisine at all hours of the day, El Indio is the place to be. Beginning with breakfast served from 9 to 11am on weekdays and 9 to 11:30am on weekends, get your Latin fix with an egg burrito, taco, quesadilla or huevos rancheros. Top it off with a Columbian coffee or fresh orange juice to start the day off right.
In the mood for a less traditional choice? Their taco salad ($5) is served in a flour tortilla bowl and is stuffed with all the burrito extras like lettuce, cheese, salsa fresca, sour cream, guacamole, bean and your choice of chicken, ground beef or veggies. Or if you’ve got a hardy appetite, order a chimichanga platter ($5.80) to get a deep fried burrito filled with beans and cheese, hot carrots, lettuce, salsa, sour cream and tortilla chips. SIDES FOR DAYS You’ll surely be satisfied with any of the generously portioned entrees, but the incredible sides really compliment each meal. The guacamole ($.80-2) is spread on many of the dishes, but you cannot fully experience the freshness and original taste without trying some with a side of chips. The queso dip ($2.60) is another delicious choice and, of course, so are the nachos and nachos suprema—complete with beans, jack and cheddar cheese, sour cream, guacamole, salsa fresca and your choice of meat, for $4.70. The salsa is fresh and chunky, with just the right amount of spice and tastes good on everything.
“The most popular item on our menu,” Hernan says, “is our tempeh burrito. We added them two years ago, and they are a big hit with our vegetarian customers.” Tempeh is a soy specialty item and makes for a tasty option for vegetarian and vegan diets. And at $4 a pop, it’s not difficult to see how this recipe became an instant favorite. HITTING THE SWEET SPOT El Indio has definitely perfected the dessert burrito, and for just $2, you’ll want to try more than one. A Latin twist on apple pie, the deep-fried flour tortilla filled with baked apples and topped with honey and cinnamon is melt-in-your-mouth good. So just when you think you’re too stuffed to have another bite, take a deep breath and finish off your Mexican experience with this decadent, after-meal delight.
