Burger King
Friday, 04 September 2009 11:12

Burger KingMost of us have indulged in a Whopper, so we don’t need to explain its deliciousness in this review. But you might not know Burger King offers many other must-have munchies, including some lower-fat options that will save you from a day on the treadmill.

A PALATIAL DINING ROOM

The Main Street Burger King, one of four local locations, was just remodeled. The walls are a calming blue, stained-glass lamps hang above the booths and a flat-screen TV adorns the wall.

“It’s a huge improvement,” says patron Barbara Wallace, who comes to the restaurant often with her three girls. In addition to the renovations, Wi-Fi will be available so students can grab a bite while working on their research paper.

FOOD “FIT” FOR A KING

There is nothing fried about the Apple Fries ($1). They are crisp, sweet, sliced apples in the shape of French fries. They come with a packet of low-fat caramel dipping sauce and are only 60 calories (including the sauce). Sweet!

Who knew vegetarians could leave Burger King with a full stomach? The Veggie Burger ($2.60) is a Morning Star patty, cooked and served on their signature bun. A veggie burger without cheese and mayo isn’t fat free, but at only 8 grams of fat it’s significantly less than a regular burger.

The Tendergrill Garden Salad ($4.60) is a refreshing, low-carb choice. They take the same piece of grilled chicken used for the Tendergrill Sandwich ($4) and lay it on a crispy salad.

Burger KingTHE ROYAL FEAST

Burger King has some tasty new specials. The Steakhouse Burger ($5.70) is a hunk of flavorful Angus beef, A1 Sauce, cheese, and potato topping complete with crispy onions. “It’s very filling,” says Manager John McClain. “It’s a manly man’s burger.”

If you are craving something delicious but not so filling, try the Tendercrisp Chicken Sandwich ($4). The chicken breast is covered with a thin, crispy layer of breading and topped with the perfect amount of mayo, lettuce and tomato. (You can also try the same chicken on a salad).

A FAIRYTALE ENDING

The Oreo Sundae shake ($2) is a delightful twist on the original hot fudge sundae. It is a creamy blend of vanilla ice cream and big chunks of Oreo cookie and swirls of fudge sauce.

Another cool choice is their iced coffee. For just $2 you get their BK Mocha Joe, a creamy blend of coffee, milk and chocolate. “I’m glad they serve coffee now,” says diner Lauren Hohman. “It’s cheaper than other places in town, and they give you a good amount.”

The Cookie Dough Pie ($1.50) tastes just like licking the bottom of a bowl of homemade cookie dough. If you’re full after your meal, it’s the perfect serving size to take home to enjoy.

NEVER A LADY IN WAITING

The staff at Burger King will treat you like royalty. They are friendly, prompt and always smiling. You could easily head to the Main Street location after a night of dancing, as they are open 24 hours Friday and Saturday and till 2am Thursday. Sunday through Wednesday they are open until midnight.
