We hit the streets to find out just what YOU think is in season for Gainesville this year.

1. Ali Robertson, journalism student: “I would have to say it’s probably classic with a little bit of a modern twist. I like a classy look – I think that tends to fit my personality more – but I also like to have my own little flair. So, I like solid colors, and also bold colors. Recently, I’ve been really into buying separate pieces – mixing and matching, and combining colors that you wouldn’t normally think of putting together. I like casual but classy – jeans and a nice shirt – not, like, scandalous dresses. Loose-fitting casual dresses; comfy.”

2. Matthew Turner, Wolfgang owner: “I don’t really have a specific style I guess. I’m trying to tone down a lot recently; this is probably one of the louder outfits I actually own. I wear a lot of solid colors, slim fitting, natural colors, broad denim; I just wear whatever is flattering on my body. I’m kind of a slim guy and it’s easy for things to look kind of baggy and ridiculous on me. I’m all about details, like, small details. It’s the little things I wear that make me happy, not so much pronouncing boldly what I am wearing. It’s all about small details.”
3. Raquelle Newman, sociology/pre-med student: “I would describe my style as one that reflects the mood of the day. I like to be comfortable, but I like to make statements while I’m out. I like to wear bright colors or wear shoes that are a little bit different from what a girl would wear. I like to wear high-top, Adidas shoes. I like wearing bright colors because my mom says it brings out my eyes. I like graphic T’s and jackets; Sometimes I like to see people read what they say because usually they’ll say something about me. My style ranges from that athlete look (track pants and Adidas flip flops, a plain T-shirt and a black jacket), or I go big and wear a brightly colored T-shirt with my high-top Adidas and a graphic jacket. Or, I wear really loud leggings. I like to set my scene where I am because I find that it’s fun to get a response from people when I’m out. We’re at a really big school: a reputation for wearing different clothes isn’t really a bad one to have. I’d just describe my style as being uniquely me.”
4. Sydney Russell, zoology student: “Normally, I’m laid-back with Vans, some jeans and, like, a v-neck. But, tonight I’m out on a date so I’m a little bit more dressed up in a floral romper and wedges. My accessories are usually long necklaces and some kind of wrist accessories -- be it a watch or some bangles -- and a ring on each finger. Leggings are always good if you want to be casual; leggings and a tunic -- something we decided this evening, actually, is that you need something to cover your rear so you can’t see through your leggings.”
5. Brandon Hunter, civil engineering student: “I like to be clean. I like accessories, but I still like to be masculine with it. I like little pants and big shirts. I like to wear things that are socially acceptable, but that most people usually wouldn’t wear. I’m a really animated person, so I try to make my clothes reflect that. I don’t like matching; anybody can match. I think it takes an artist to put articles of clothing that contrast each other, but that are still pleasing to the eye. I like people to notice every piece of article of clothing that I have because each one of them says something about me.”
6. Pettagay Ybarra, sociology graduate student: “I’m a little kitsch/chic – maybe trendy. I love coats; I’m obsessed with coats. I will spend a good amount of money on a nice coat. Typically, I like bags and a lot of accessories, but I’m not wearing any today. I like coats, accessories, jeans and a T-shirt, and that’s pretty much my style most days. But if I’m going out with my girlfriends, I’ll wear a dress.”
7. Jason Degen, UF Performing Arts Technical Director: “I describe my style as easy and inoffensive; I don’t want people to smell me first. Excellent hygiene is absolutely important; not only, like, how you bathe, but also what food you eat so you make sure that there is not nasty stuff coming out of your skin. I don’t like pants that have a crotch down by your knees. Please use the strides that you have and present yourself in a way that you don’t make people want to retch. My advice is to go with a button down collar, don’t wear pants that aren’t your size, and pointy shoes are really cool.”
8. Allysar Hassan, journalism student: “I like to play around with like being kind of edgy and really girly. So, often I will mix the two. So if I have black leather boots and black pants or something, I’ll put on a frilly top because I like that contrast between girly and edgy. Today, I am wearing something extremely frilly and girly – florals – which I love.”
