Road Test: The diary of a relaxed male

Istock courtesy photoIn a world where we are always connected, whether at home or at work, there is always something that is being demanded of us.

This leads to stress, trouble sleeping and overeating. In an effort to combat the stress, we tested various supplements claiming to aid in mood, relaxation and sleep. Jim at Complete Nutrition in the Oaks Mall handpicked a variety of supplements for us to try, each specifically engineered for our relaxation. We called up our old friend Subject P (you might remember him from last month’s “Diary of an Enhanced Male”) to try these supplements both before bed and during the day. Below are the supplements he sampled and his (completely unscientific) diary.

By Harry Leeds

1. NGH-t Anabolic Supplement ($80) (2 tablets at night)

Subject P took NGH-t before bed. This pill packs dozens of supplements geared toward ultimate rest and relaxation. Subject P noted a particular ease in falling asleep, and a particular readiness for exercise in the morning. Strangely, he began listening to blues and rockabilly at the moment he ingested the pills. Subject P reported being excited about NGH-t because, he says, “They are the best way to get ready to work out.” They are intended to boost hormones that promote energy and Subject P feels it works better than whey protein.

With relaxing passionflower and chamomile, the combination of supplements in NGH-t is designed to promote a good mood at home or in the office. Subject P found them not as tiring as the other supplements.

3-in-1 supplement2. 3-in-1 ($60) (2 tablets, twice a day)

Subject P found 3-in-1 to be a bit less “aggressive” than the other supplements, but this was advantageous for the day. Subject P found himself to get much intellectual work done without, as plagues Subject P, “existential pressure to perform intellectually.” Subject P, as is his wont, wrote mountains of poetry after taking 3-in-1.

Subject P recommends the 3-in-1 for everyday activities. With passionflower aiming to reduce stress, green tea extract and tyrosine to regulate the thyroid and hoodio and usri extract to “keep your body flushed out,” 3-in-1 will keep you feeling good all day, according to Subject P’s experience.

Subject P reported 3-in-1 to be particularly effective when taken in tandem with GABA, below.

3. GABA ($15) GABA Growth Hormone Activator

GABA is an amino acid that regulates muscle tone and is famous for producing supreme relaxation. This can be purchased in powder or pill form. Having taken a few scoops before bed in some juice, Subject P reported a warm, calming and relaxing effect coming over his body. It helped him fall asleep quickly and soundly. He also was said to have had only good dreams. The nightmares that usually plague his nights were absent.

Night Charger drink4. Night Charger ($60) (One tablet at night)

Jim told Subject P that after taking Night Charger, he would wake up “hard.” This was so true that, in fact, that he woke up several times during the night in the aforementioned condition. “The only way to counteract the Night Charger is to play a little five-on-one,” reported Subject P—as much as several times a day just to be able to conduct normal social interactions. After becoming used to Night Charger, Subject P slept through the night and awoke after 16 hours of deep sleep, feeling very relaxed. He did, however, wish that he had a louder alarm. Night Charger includes Hoodia to decrease appetite; 5 HTP to relax, increase serotonin and ward off bad dreams; and melatonin, a natural chemical that forces your body to sleep. In the end, it “lived up to its expectations.” If you’re a man who needs a real charge, this is the one for you.

RESULTS

Subject P reported deep relaxation and sleep. He did note, however, a physical heaviness throughout the day, and trouble waking, despite his very positive mood.

These particular combinations of supplements are found at Complete Nutrition stores only, though similar products are available elsewhere. As with any supplements, consult your doctor before ingesting and take at your own risk.
